The owner of an Orlando taco restaurant said his surveillance cameras captured an Uber Eats driver stealing money from his employee’s tip jar. The alleged theft happened at MX Taco on Bumby Avenue in Orlando around closing time on Friday. The owner of the restaurant said the money in the tip jar is supposed to be something extra for his employees and he worries that the driver has stolen from other restaurants. Owner Ryan Manning said only about $20 was stolen, but the money helps his team, especially during the pandemic.”To have that little bit of extra cash in my employees’ pockets is definitely important to them, and to me as well,” Manning said. The surveillance video shows the driver walk to the front of the restaurant while wiping his hands with a paper towel. While nobody else is around, he reaches into the jar. Manning said it looked like he balled the cash up with the towel to hide it. “It was very slick, which makes me think it has been done before, because of how smooth it was,” Manning said. Manning said he reported the theft to police and to Uber and he wants others to be aware of the tactic. Orlando police have not said whether they’re trying to find him. Uber did not respond to a request for comment from WESH 2 News.
